Each work of this series has a longer subtitle encapsulating a memory or the artist’s life as it relates to an abiding love of the natural world; a love ingrained in the artist as a child and nurtured as an adult.
I inherited a love of birds from my mother, and dreams of flight are by far my favorite, usually starting off by remembering, oh yes, I do indeed know how to fly. I just forgot. Then I consciously fire up my flight skill to rise up. In waking life, I mostly come across pigeon or chicken feathers, so when I came across a Blue Jay feather while cleaning a patio, I was struck and set it aside to collect later. Rascals they may be, but our Midwestern Jays have quite possibly the most beautiful plumage of any of the Jays. To my dismay, the feather had vanished when I came back to collect it and I still regret losing that one.
